Christian churches are preparing to enter the last week of the liturgical year, doing so with particular joy and reverence to emphasize Jesus Christ’s universal reign. The feast draws focus on the connection between Christ’s kingship and his second advent (coming) to judge the world.
This weekend, St. Joseph Cathedral will celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, with Masses at 4:00 pm Saturday, November 23 , and 8:30 am and 10:30 am Sunday, November 24. All are invited to participate.
The Most Rev. Michael G. Duca, Bishop of Baton Rouge, will preside at the 10:30 am Holy Mass. At that Mass, the full Cathedral Choir will lead congregational singing. Among the choral selections areJesu! Rex Admirabilis(Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina),Christus Vincit(Laudes Regiae, plainchant), and the robustly popular African American spiritualRide On, King Jesus!(arrangement by Moses G. Hogan, New Orleans native, 1957-2003).
