The mystery of the Incarnation -- God-Made-Man -- made real by the lowly birth of the Christ Child in Bethlehem is the central focus of the Universal Church’s celebration of the Nativity of the Lord.
All are invited to join parishioners and friends of St. Joseph Cathedral located at 401 Main Street in downtown Baton Rouge for these liturgical celebrations on December 24-25:
- Vigil Mass of Christmas Eve, 4:00 pm, with cathedral Rector Rev. J. Cary Bani presiding. A 30-minute program of carols, hymns, and instrumental music will precede this Mass. - Solemn Mass of Christmas Eve “In the Night,” the Nativity of the Lord, 9:00 pm, with Bishop Michael G. Duca presiding. A concert of instrumental and choral music, beginning at 8:00 pm, will precede the Mass. - Mass of Christmas Day, 9:30 am, with a 20-minute musical program preceding this Mass. Other Christmastide celebrations include: - Feast of the Holy Family, Vigil Mass at 4:00 pm Saturday, December 28, and 8:30 am and 10:30 am Sunday, December 29. The 10:30 am Mass ceremonially begins the Diocese of Baton Rouge’s observance of the universal “Jubilee Year of Hope” proclaimed by Pope Francis. - Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God, Mass at 12:00 noon Wednesday, January 1. - Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord, 4:00 pm Saturday, January 4, and 8:30 am and 10:30 am Sunday, January 5. - Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. 4:00 pm Saturday, January 11, and 8:30 am and 10:30 am Sunday, January 12, the liturgical end of the Christmas season.
