The 50 days of Eastertide are drawing near to a close with the celebration of the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord, which the Catholic dioceses of Louisiana observe on Sunday, May 21.

The 10:30 am Principal Eucharist will feature special music. Accompanying the Cathedral Choir and the majestic pipe organ “Providence” will be the Magnolia Strings Quartet led by Dr. Borislava Iltcheva, concertmaster at the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra.
Noteworthy pieces to be performed by the choir, organ, and quartet are the oertory anthem, “God Is Gone Up” by Gerald Finzi, and the communion anthem, “Achieved Is the Glorious Work” from e Creation by Joseph Haydn.
Organist and Director of Music David Summers will perform “Mozart’s “Alleluia” and John Stanley’s “Trumpet Tune in D Major” during the prelude and postlude, respectively.
“We are pleased to have the Magnolia Strings Quartet enhance our worship several times each year, and we encourage everyone to attend our solemn liturgy,” Summers said. “The heavenly orchestral sounds will truly elevate our worship as we celebrate Christ’s Ascension,” he added.
